ASCOLANA TENERA

MARCHES
DISTRIBUTION AREA:
Central Italy.
TREE:
A vigorous plant with a very dense crown of an upward shape and slightly drooping fruiting branches. The leaves are regular, elliptical, of medium size and an intense green color.
FRUIT:
The fruit is ellipsoidal in shape, slightly asymmetrical with a top that is rounded or slightly sub-conical, light green in color at harvest and used for table fruit because of its very large size (8-10g). The flesh represents about 86-87% of the fruit and is of a milky white color.
AGRONOMICAL CHARACTERS:
An auto-incompatible cultivar with a high percentage of aborted ovaries. Pollinators: Rosciola, Leccino, Frantoio, Pendolino. Good resistance to cold but sensitive to peacock spot (Cycloconium oleaginum).
OIL CONTENT:
15-16% by weight. Although the percentage of oil is not high its quality is excellent.
HARVEST TIME:
From 20th September to 10th October in Italy.
OTHER CHARACTERS:
Not withstanding the delicate quality of the flesh, this cultivar is very valued and is used and appreciated all around the world.
