AREA OF DIFFUSION:
Molise (a region of Italy) as well as many new producing Countries (mainly South Africa, South America and Australia).
TREE:
A plant of medium size and moderately pendulant shape. The expansive crown tends towards a globular shape and has long flexible branches. The leaf is deep green in color, elliptical in shape and ends in a slightly mucronate shape.
FRUIT:
Large drupes (5-6 grams) that are elongated ovals and slightly asymmetrical in shape. Ripening is mid to late season in Italy (November-December).
AGRONOMICAL CHARACTERS:
This variety is self-sterile, of high constant production with a low percentage of aborted ovaries. Pollinators: Frantoio, Leccino, Moraiolo. It has a good resistance to drought, cold and in general to all parasites of the olive tree.
OIL CONTENT:
Usually high yield at the mill (21-23%) as well as high quantity of poliphenols (590 mg/kg). Its oil, when freshly extracted, is fruity and pungent with bitter aftertaste.
HARVEST TIME:
From November to January in Italy. They are harvested when the olives start to turn black at the tip. When grown in warmer areas, usually Coratina is harvested when olives from green would turn yellowish.
OTHER CHARACTERS:
This variety is characterized by early production and by its very good adaptability to different soils and climates.
