NOCELLARA DEL BELICE

AREA OF ORIGIN:
SICILY
DIFFUSION AREA:
Southern Italy.
TREE:
The variety is characterized by the shape of its branches and by the expansive crown of modest growth. The leaves are lanceolate, large and intense green in color.
FRUIT:
The fruit has a notable weight (5-7 grams) with a large base and rounded top. The flesh, which is very consistent in texture and prized for brining, represents 85-88 % of the fruit. The maturation is late but if the fruit is for canning, the harvest is over before winter.
AGRONOMICAL CHARACTERS:
The plant is self-incompatible, of medium and consistent productiveness. Pollinators: include Giarraffa, Biancolilla. It is partially resistant to cold and diseases such as peacock spot (Cycloconium oleaginum) and olive knot (Pseudomonas savastanoi).
OIL CONTENT:
20%. The oil is light and perfumed.
HARVEST TIME:
From September to November in Italy.
OTHER CHARACTERS:
It prefers a deep moist soil. It owes its wide spread planting to the bounty of its production.
