BIANCOLILLA

BIANCUZZA, RIZZA, BIANCOLIDDA, BIANCHETTA, SIGRUNA, NAPOLETANA.
AREA OF ORIGIN:
SICILY
DISTRIBUTION AREA:
Southwestern Sicily.
TREE:
A plant of great vigor with a dense crown and expansive habit. The leaves are medium-small, lanceolate and dark green.
FRUIT:
An oil cultivar with symmetrical oval-conical fruit and medium weight (2.5-3.0g). At harvest the olives are distinctive red-violet color.
AGRONOMICAL CHARACTERS:
A partly self incompatible variety that is greatly aided in setting fruit by cross pollination. A variety of elevated production, but with a tendency towards alternate bearing. Good resistance to cold, drought and to peacock spot (Cycloconium oleaginum).
OIL CONTENT:
Medium, 15% to 18%, very aromatic and excellent quality.
HARVEST TIME:
Harvesting starts in early October, goes to mid-November in Sicily.
OTHER CHARACTERS:
The ideal condition for this variety is high southern hills if the climate and soil are good. Biancolilla is a good pollinator for other oil varieties.
